Full or partial packing?
-
Full packing
The crew packs everything, usually the day before the move.
-
Partial packing
Just the hard parts, like the kitchen, glassware and artwork. You pack the rest.
-
Unpacking
Some removalists will also unpack at your new home and take the boxes away.
-
Materials only
Buy or hire boxes and wrapping from the removalist and pack yourself.
Packing yourself? Start here
- Start with the rooms you use least, like spare rooms and the garage.
- Put heavy things like books in small boxes, and light things in big ones.
- Label each box on the side with the room and what's inside.
- Pack an essentials box: kettle, chargers, toilet paper, medicines and a change of clothes.
- Keep valuables, passports and important documents with you, not on the truck.
Common questions
Are boxes I pack myself insured?
Not always the same way. Some removalists' insurance treats owner-packed boxes differently. Ask about this when you compare quotes.
How long does packing take?
It depends on how much you own. Ask each removalist how many hours and people they expect, so you can compare quotes fairly.
Can I just buy boxes from the removalist?
Many removalists sell or hire boxes and wrapping. It's worth asking, as hired boxes are often stronger than supermarket ones.
