Sort these with your building first
Apartment buildings in Parramatta, Liverpool, Blacktown and Penrith are getting bigger and busier. Check these with your building or strata manager at both ends:
-
Lift booking
Ask the building manager to book the lift for your moving time, and whether they fit protective lift covers.
-
Where the truck parks
Many basement car parks are too low for a removalist truck. Ask about a loading dock or kerbside parking.
-
Moving hours
Some buildings only allow moves at set times or days. Check the by-laws before you book a time.
-
Deposits and forms
Some buildings ask for a booking form or a refundable deposit before move day.
-
Walk-ups
No lift? Tell the removalist how many flights of stairs there are at both ends.
What does an apartment move cost?
Unit moves are usually charged by the hour. Lifts, long walks from the truck and stairs all add time.
| What you're paying for | Typical range |
|---|---|
| 2 movers and a truck | $120–$220 per hour |
| 1-bedroom unit, local move | $345–$920 total |
| 2-bedroom unit, local move | $575–$1,375 total |
| Stairs with no lift | $29–$92 per flight |

Apartment moving checklist
- Get the lift booking time confirmed in writing.
- Measure big items, like a sofa or fridge, against doorways and the lift.
- Tell removalists the floor number and the distance from the truck to the lift.
- Take photos of hallways and the lift before and after, in case of a damage claim.
- Pack a bag with keys, chargers, medicines and documents to carry yourself.
Common questions
Why does the removalist need to know about the lift?
A shared lift that isn't booked can double the time your move takes. The removalist also needs to know if items like a long sofa will fit inside it.
Will a removalist truck fit in my building's car park?
Often not. Ask your building manager for the car park height clearance or the loading dock details, and pass them on when you ask for quotes.
Are 2 movers enough for a unit?
For most 1 or 2-bedroom units with a lift, yes. For walk-ups or heavy items, ask whether a third mover would make the job quicker.
