How much does a house move cost?
Most local house moves are charged by the hour, from when the truck arrives until the last item is unloaded. Many removalists also charge travel time from their depot. These rough ranges help you sense-check a quote:

Questions to ask before you book
- Is the price hourly or fixed? If hourly, is there a minimum number of hours?
- Do you charge travel time from your depot, and how is it worked out?
- What insurance do you have? Ask about public liability and cover for goods in transit.
- Are blankets, trolleys and wrapping included, or extra?
- What happens if the move runs over time, or you need to reschedule?
Common questions
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is a good aim. Allow longer for a weekend, the end of the month or school holidays, when removalists get busy.
Is a fixed price better than an hourly rate?
A fixed price gives certainty, but it's only as good as the information you give. List everything, including the garage and garden shed, so there are no surprises on the day.
